Security researchers at AT&T Alien Labs warn in a new report of Shikitega, a new malware that targets connected gadgets that use Linux-based operating systems.
The purpose of Shikitega is to install software that secretly mines cryptocurrencies, something that will ensure that the hackers make a lot of money without lifting a finger.
Exactly how Shikitega spreads is currently unclear, but it appears to be in the form of modules that are not detected by antivirus programs. Once all modules have been downloaded, the known vulnerabilities CVE-2021-3493 and CVE-2021-4034 are used to gain full control over the systems.
The best way to protect yourself against Shikitega is to install the security fixes that close the aforementioned vulnerabilities.
