BATTLEFIELD 2042 UPDATE #3.2.0
Here is an overview of the changes and improvements in this update: Play as the familiar Assault, Engineer, Recon and Support as we Return to the Class system Customize your class with Class Equipment, Class Gadgets and Weapon Proficiencies Map Rework: Breakaway New Vault Weapons: M39 EMR, MTAR-21, PP-2000 New Suppressor, Long-range Scope and Thermal Scopes The Active Protection System becomes available for the M1A5 and T28 Below Radar arrives for Air Vehicles Exclusive Rewards for Year 1 Pass, Gold and Ultimate owners As it's the start of the new year we also feel it’s the right time to change how we deliver our update notes to you. Currently, you are used to receiving them the day before an update goes live, but we want to get that information into your hands sooner. That means you can now expect a full overview of the content and changes for major game updates to become available in the week leading up to their release. Whenever we plan a game update there is sometimes a chance for a last minute release date shift. That means we’ll continue confirming the deployment time for each update early in the week of its release, as we have done previously. Update 3.2.0 is a major moment for the team as we have worked on the Return to the Class System for Battlefield™ 2042, alongside many other changes and improvements. You’ve told us how you’d like to see gameplay evolve and we’re extremely excited to get those changes into your hands. Thank you for all your feedback leading up to its release. Once you’ve played - let us know what you think! Return to the Class System Representing the most substantial change to Battlefield 2042 so far, the Return to the Class System introduces familiar gameplay by bringing back the structure and class identity that you’re used to from previous Battlefield titles. If you’d like to learn more about the journey and feedback that we’ve received from you around the development of this feature then we invite you to check our latest Dev Notes blog. And as the subject of our first episode of our new Inside Battlefield Podcast, you can also listen to it if that’s your preference! Classes Each Specialist has now been assigned to a familiar Battlefield Class that signifies the expected gameplay behavior of that particular Specialist. We have also taken our previously open pool of Equipment and Gadgets and assigned them to particular Classes to further encourage the role of Class gameplay, while simultaneously adding structure to assist with the readability of encounters while you’re on the Battlefield. As we approach Update 3.2 we will be updating the Battlefield website with all information you need to understand these changes. Here’s a quick overview of which Specialists, Class Equipment and Class Gadget apply to each Class: Assault: Dozer, Mackay, Sundance, Zain Class Equipment: Med Pen Class Gadgets: C5 Explosive, IBA Armor Plate, M18 Claymore, Smoke Launcher Engineer: Boris, Crawford, Lis Class Equipment: Repair Tool Class Gadgets: AT Mine, C5 Explosive, EOD Bot, FM-148 Javelin, FXM-33 AA, Recoilless M5 Recon: Casper, Paik, Rao Class Equipment: Insertion Beacon Class Gadget: C5 Explosive, M18 Claymore, Prox Sensor, SOFLAM, Tracer Dart, T-UGS Support: Angel, Falck, Irish Class Equipment: Defibrillator Class Gadget: Ammo Crate, Health Crate, M18 Claymore, Smoke Launcher Weapon Proficiencies The Return to the Class System also introduces Weapon Proficiencies. A set of optional and passive benefits that encourages using the Weapon Archetype for your Class during gameplay. Assault + Assault Rifles: 3 Extra Magazines Engineer + LMG: Improved Dispersion while Crouched or Prone Recon + Sniper Rifles: Immediate, constant and steady scope Support + SMG: Faster Draw Time Weapon Proficiencies will help you understand what setup may work best for each particular Class, while also adding back Class Identity to the Battlefield. Breakaway Featuring some of the most visible and extensive changes to take place on our map reworks, Breakaway has been streamlined and reduced in size to encourage more intensive encounters than you have previously experienced. Areas of Improvement Glacier Top: Previously a wide open expanse with little cover to protect yourself, the penguins have created an outpost settlement with buildings to battle through as you establish control of the immediate area. Ice Shelf: Extensive improvements have been made to the overall Ice Shelf area of Breakaway, featuring a new flag on top of the Glacier, and new routes to encourage flanking between the glacier and the relocated Oil Rig. Oil Rig: One of our favorite playspaces has been relocated to the foot of the Glacier, allowing for more frantic combat encounters as it’s much closer to the action than before. New ways to assault the Oil Rig have been established, and new paths and cover have been included throughout the deck. Snow Cave: Nestled within the glacier you will find a Snow Cave that features a downed MV-38 Condor, precious resources are scattered throughout this location as your team works to secure this new Capture Point Workers Village: Military presence and fortification has increased throughout this area. Cleaner navigation and shorter distances between Capture Points should ensure the action remains ever flowing across the Workers Village. Rumor has it that the workers in this village also throw the best parties. But so far we haven’t been invited yet. Thermal Scopes There was one clear winner when reviewing which type of attachment we could release next throughout Season 3: Thermal Scopes. While they are no stranger to Battlefield - we’ve had them in previous games - technical and engine improvements have allowed us to show these scopes in a way that we haven’t done before. Previous titles had these scopes changing the entire screen. But with Battlefield 2042 we can now isolate this effect to only show within the scope itself, alongside showing multiple hotspots for a single item… use a Thermal Scope on Twin-Engine aircraft and you’ll see what we mean! With this Update, Zain shall also be able to utilize thermals with his XM370A Airburst Launcher. On the balance front we have also made several steps to ensure that these attachments bring appropriate gameplay for today's Battlefield. That means that some expectations of how these attachments work in real-life do not equate to a fun gameplay experience. Fun is always our priority when introducing new things to the Battlefield. So as an example, tactical smoke from gadgets, grenades or vehicles will be opaque to Thermal Scopes. While smoke and steam that originates from the environment will be transparent. We’ll continue to monitor, tweak and adjust Thermal Scope gameplay over time. TR-1 Thermal 1.25x: This scope is ideal for close-range combat, its compact screen will provide valuable info while operating in dark staircases or tight corridors. Equippable with: 12m Auto, AC-42, AK-24, AM40, Avancys, Ghostmaker R10, K30, LCMG, M5A3, MCS-880, MP9, NVK-S22, PBX-45, PKP-BP, PP-29, Rorsch Mk-4 and SFAR-M GL T4 Thermal 2.5x: The mid-range option out of the three new scopes, whose black and white screen finds optimal use when engaging players in warehouses or container parks. Equippable with: AC-42, AM40, Avancys, BSV-M, DM7, GVT 45-70, M5A3, PKP-BP, Rorsch Mk-4, SFAR-M GL, SVK, VCAR 2038 Thermal 6x: Perfect for long range engagement, and for finding opposition snipers who are hiding away in a bush. Equippable with: BSV-M, DM7, DXR-1, NTW-50, Rorsch Mk-4, SVK, SWS-10 New Suppressor: NVK-Box Suppressor What's better than a suppressor? Two welded together, of course. Specifically designed for the NVK-S22, the ‘box’ will allow you to add a little bit of sneak to your ventures into close-quarters combat. Active Protection System for M1A5 and T28 As previously announced in our Dev Notes blog for Vehicles, the Active Protection System is now available on the M1A5 and T28. When we brought this feature to the EBLC-RAM in Season 2, we knew we would want to release it across other vehicles. We also know this is something you’ve been asking for, and we cannot wait to see your reactions once you’ve been able to try it out. Below Radar arrives for Air Vehicles Flying below 30 meters from the ground will now ensure that you’re immune to lock-ons from Vehicle-based weaponry. We are also reducing the height limits for Helicopters. Previously we have seen some instances of pilots flying high and unleashing havoc with very little response as lock-on launchers were unable to reach that high. This tweak helps bring those helicopters down to the ground (literally). This change does not currently affect Jets, or missiles that are already fired. We will continue to review your feedback in the meantime. New Vault Weapons: M39 EMR, MTAR-21, PP-2000 The M39 EMR, MTAR-21 and PP-2000 have been added to the All-Out Warfare arsenal. M39 EMR Significantly lighter than the “OG” M14, this rifle comes with match-grade 7.52mm long range ammo and a standard 8X Rifle Scope to position it as an adaptable, medium range Sniper Rifle. MTAR-21 A compact Bullpup Assault Rifle chambering 5.56x45mm NATO rounds. Being popular for its ambidextrous setup, its heavy modularity and reliability, this medium-range AR is the proof that size deceives. The MTAR-21 also arrives within Battlefield Portal as part of this Update. PP-2000 This modern SMG features a 40-round magazine, lightweight frame and a high rate of fire. Coupled with its high muzzle velocity, even the smallest of ammo rounds pack a punch. Crystal Dynamics abandons Marvel's Avengers
Marvel's Avengers was released in 2020 by Crystal Dynamics and was supposed to be a so-called live Serivce venture for all superhero fans. Instead, the game received mostly poor reviews from both the press and the players. Criticism was directed at the pay model and loot boxes in the game, but also for tiresome game mechanics and an uninspiring single-player campaign. The developers have tried to fix the problems and continue to release content, but as of September this year, support for the game will be discontinued completely. After the 2.8 update, Crystal Dynamics will no longer spend any more time on the game. However, it will still be possible to play both in single player and multiplayer so the servers will remain. The Cosmetic items will no longer be purchasable from the market but will be made available for free to all players. The players who have credits left on the account will have these converted into resources according to a model described in the link above Are you still playing Marvel's Avengers ?

Rainbow Six movie with John Wick's director at the helm
There has been talk for many years that Tom Clancy's book and game series Rainbow Six will become a film. The book and first game were released in 1998 and naturally many people think that the game is based on the book. However, the truth is that the book and the game were written and developed in parallel. Tom Clancy wrote the book while Red Storm Entertainment developed the game. As you know, Red Storm was also started by Tom Clancy himself after he became interested in the game medium. Ubisoft later bought Red Storm and has since developed a number of games in the R6 series. Last game was Rainbow Six Extraction . Now, in any case, the series will get a film adaptation and Michael B. Jordan will once again take up the mantle and play the Navy SEAL soldier/CIA agent John Clark. Clark figures in quite a few of Clancy's books but got his own spin-off in the book Without Remorse and later Rainbow Six . Jordan played Clark in Amazon's film version Without Remorse which was released in 2021 and will now return to the role. As written, the director will be Chad Stahelski, who is better known for the John Wick films.

Descent (DOS) [Support Topic]
Descent (DOS) Descent is a 3D first-person game that puts the player at the controls of the Pyro-GX spaceship. Descent is notable in that the player travels through various interior locations (mines) but can do so in 720 degrees of movement. The ship however only moves forward and backward in any of the directions it is facing. The ship is able to use a variety of weapons scattered as power-ups throughout each level. They include: standard lasers, the Vulcan Cannon (a chaingun-like weapon), the Spreadfire Cannon (a rapidly firing, shotgun-like energy weapon), the Plasma Cannon (a rapidly firing energy weapon more suited for medium-range combat), and the Fusion Cannon (fires a ball of energy that's more powerful the longer it is charged it up, but could destroy the ship). All of these weapons, except for the Vulcan Cannon, use the ship's energy supply. The Pyro-PX is also capable of firing regular concussion missiles, homing missiles, proximity bombs (sits in the sky, then explodes when something gets close to it), smart missiles (more powerful homing missiles that fire out homing energy balls upon impact with their target), and Mega Missiles (the ultimate weapons of mass destruction). The goal of each level is to locate and destroy the mine's reactor. Once completed, there are only 45 seconds to find the escape hatch to get out of the mine before it explodes. As progress is made through the game, the AI will adapt to player's strategies and attempt to prevent the player from reaching the goals. Elvira (DOS) The game where entering the wrong place meant a painful and extraordinary death. A game that has as much atmosphere and style as the main character herself - Elvira. The problem with these very old RPGs is that it is quite difficult to find the cons, especially when in their heyday virtually no one noticed them. From today's point of view, one minor downside would be perhaps a little more complicated control, and worse orientation in space between rooms. But now for the story. Elvira has a little problem. In a way, she discovered a great castle, and she would like to remake it to her image - a cozy home is always a good idea. But it is Elvira, and so she inadvertently awakened Queen Emalda, who was rotting there for hundreds of years. And hundreds of years of rotting queens will not go to the beauty salon after waking up. No. Such queens, when woken up, think of nothing but world domination. The only way to stop it is a special scroll hidden somewhere in that castle. But there is one small problem ... the castle has 800 rooms full of dangerous traps and wonderful creatures. But who wouldn't help dear Elvira, just look at her eyes and you must fall in love! Squad gets DLC that costs, despite promises that it would never happen
Tactical military shooter Squad has been out for a number of years now, and developer Offworld Industries has been steadily adding new content to the game without charging for it. In fact, in the past it promised that the game would never charge for any content, but now they seem to have changed their minds. In a post, they write that update 4.27 will, among other things, add emotes (emotes) – that is, short animations to interact with other players. Initially, there will be three different emote packs, but only one of them will be free, while the other two can be purchased for "a reasonable price". However, all Kickstarter backers who qualified for physical rewards will receive all three at no cost. " After releasing free updates to Squad for years, this will be our first attempt to monetize Squad beyond the initial purchase. We understand that in-game costed content can be controversial and that Offworld's previous management said that costed DLC would never be added to Squad. With that in mind, we wanted to inform you of this change before v4.2 is released. " They explain that they plan to maintain the game with more free content for a long time, but that they need a way to finance development, including in the form of DLC packs like these. However, they promise that the emotes should not be of the type that spoil the experience. It's all received a mixed reception among players, with some not having a problem with it at all, some upset that Offworld doesn't deliver on what they promised, and some worried about potential DLC that could detract from the experience, like various colorful clothing. The class system returns to Battlefield 2042 this month
Battlefield 2042 received a lot of criticism when it was released last fall, not least because the fixed player classes were replaced with specialists who could act as just about anything. Already in August, Dice made it clear that this will change, and in a new blog post they talk about the return of the class system. For starters - it's close. The return of the classes will happen when the game is updated to 3.2, which will be already this month. In concrete terms, the specialists will be sorted into each class (Assault, Recon, Support, Engineer). We will get more details about the update and the changes shortly - only eleven days left in the month. And if it turns out well, we have to be prepared to give Dice and EA credit for trying to make the game better since it was released.

Piranha Games is working on a new single player Mechwarrior
Russ Bullock is the top dog at Piranha Games and in a podcast talk with No Guts No Galaxy told a little about the future of Mechwarriors. As you know, a DLC called Rise of Rasalhague is on its way to Mechwarrior 5 and will be released on January 26, but they are also looking a little further ahead. Bullock says he's a little surprised they got to work on Mechwarrior as long as they did, but he really appreciates it. Furthermore, he reveals another standalone game in the series is now in development with them, and it is not a sequel to Mechwarrior Online and does not revolve around online PVP. Instead, it's more in line with Mechwarrior 5, with singleplayer and co-op. It is supposed to be released for PC and "consoles", but he does not want to say more, apart from the fact that it will be announced for real sometime during the year, possibly as late as this fall.

Ubisoft CEO: "We're definitely disappointed with our performance"
In the past six months, Ubisoft has discontinued seven games. Most unknown but not all, such as Splinter Cell VR. On Wednesday, an emergency meeting was held with Ubisoft and investors, where closures and further Skull and Bones delays were agreed upon. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expresses disappointment. He highlights industry changes and the economic situation of the rest of the world. " We are clearly disappointed by our recent performance. We are facing contrasted market dynamics as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and everlasting live games, in the context of worsening economic conditions affecting consumer spending. " Ubisoft has reportedly spent the past four years adapting its major brands, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and The Division , to keep up with industry changes. However, they have not yet been able to reap the benefits, while new games have underperformed. For example, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope did "significantly and surprisingly" worse than expected. Changes await - unclear exactly which ones In the next fiscal year (April 2023 through March 2024), it plans to release Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and "other yet-to-be-announced premium games, including a major, as well as promising free-to-play game that builds on some of our biggest brands". Guillemot concludes with optimism. He believes Ubisoft can reverse the trend and that they have the ability. The board has also approved "additional strategic and operational decisions", for the good of the company. However, it is unclear how these look concretely, but presumably money will be saved. The CEO also notes that older games, like Rainbow Six, continue to perform and the future looms. " We expect our strategy to build long-lasting live games and transform our biggest brands into truly global phenomenon with multiple offerings across platforms and business models, to ultimately generate significant value creation, with strong topline and operating income growth over the coming years. Amazon Games loses another heavy name
In March last year , Mike Frazzini stepped down as head of e-commerce giant Amazon's gaming venture. Now John Smedley, studio head of Amazon Games San Diego for the past six years, is doing the same. In a letter to employees, according to Bloomberg, Smedley writes that after much thought he decided to try something new. Smedley has previously worked with and for Everquest, Daybreak Games, Sony Online Entertainment and Planetside. In 2015, he stepped down as head of Daybreak, in part after running into controversy with hackers. The following year, he was forced to state that the Kickstarter investment on the hardcore role-playing game Hero's Song failed. Amazon began a big push into computer games in 2014, but has had trouble making any big hits. The MMORPG New World from the fall of 2021 has fared decently in terms of critics and players (roughly 900,000 simultaneous players on Steam at most). The January 2022 free-to-play MMO Lost Ark also did well, but on the other hand, it was coded by Smilegate, not Amazon Games. Otherwise, it has been bleak for Amazon Games, with hardly any releases and several discontinued projects. And it doesn't look very bright going forward either - as far as is known, no in-house developed PC games are in the works.

Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition (DOS) [Support Topic]
Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition (DOS) Duke's back for an official encore. Available in two flavors, the Plutonium Pack add-on for the original or the full fledged Atomic Edition, both come with Duke Nukem 3D version 1.4 and a bonus episode entitled "The Birth". It takes you through another eleven action packed levels which serve to remind us why the original was so good to begin with. New enemies, varied locations, one bonus weapon (the “Enlarger” – basically a reversed Shrinker) and the same hectic action of DN3D means there’s lots of cool alien blasting to be had here. The Atomic Edition’s bonus episode has Duke going through a variety of amusing locales, some paying homage to such movies as Mission: Impossible, Alien and Independence Day. These levels carry weight since they were actually created by the guys at 3D Realms. The levels are very fun too, and show some very keen use of the Build engines ability to create floors over floors. But just the general hilarity and the themepark feel of it all is enough to pick it up. Also included with this pack is the official Duke Nukem screen saver, jigsaw puzzles and desktop themes, and, as part of the Build Engine 1.4, the Duke tag multiplayer game, wherein you and your fellow Dukers try to tag certain parts of their opponents side of the level all the while blowing up enemy teammates and avoiding getting yourself blown up in the process. There are a couple of new monsters (including a devilishly tough Alien-lookalike), a new Alien Queen end boss whom you’ll face in an underwater lair, and plenty of new textures and landscapes. This upgrade should be appealing to those who enjoy using the Build editor because of the new textures and weather effects. Overall, these levels are solid and tough as well as incredibly funny. Suffice to say, if you're a Duke fan, then you'll probably want to pick up the Atomic Edition. File Information Submitter [[Template core/front/global/userLink is throwing an error. Blood (DOS) [Support Topic]
Blood (DOS) Blood is a typical Build-powered shooter with a gory twist to the action. While not being the first ever horror-themed FPS in existence, Blood does get dubious praise for being more dark and visceral than anything before it. Zombies, demons, religious fanatics and other nasty things are out to get you in this dark, tattered, maggoty, festering computer game. Even though Blood can be gross as hell, it’s not the least bit off-putting because of it. In fact, its bleak atmosphere and numerous horror-film references scattered throughout the game make it a joy to play. Picture walking through a moonlit Crystal Lake and finding Jason’s iconic ski mask in his rickety cabin. Or stumbling upon a frozen Jack Torrence in a snowy hedge maze. All of that is here, plus much more. With its quirky humor and macabre imagery, Blood has the strange quality of being both foul and alluring at the same time. Playing the role of a resurrected gunslinger out for revenge, Blood successfully copies what made Duke Nukem 3D great and places the action in a sort of hellish version of the world, one ruled by dark gods, insane cultists, vicious demons and loinclothed loons who fling their arms in panic. Other than the poor loinclothed guys who always get caught in a crossfire, Blood throws in everything from pesky rats and spiders to giant stone gargoyles, with a great many drawn from famous works of horror. Most common among them are axe-wielding George Romero-style Zombies and machingun-totting cultists that spout insane babble. The trigger-happy Cultists will cause the most trouble, as their lightning-quick reflexes and sharp aim make them awfully challenging to kill. Other enemies up for spillage is the Bloated Butcher, Phantasm (a spooky ghost with a scythe), Hell Hound and four different boss characters. Blood’s most novel enemy is the disembodied hand that chokes the life out of you. Pressing ‘Use’ repeatedly will force it off. You can even here the hand utter ‘I’ll swallow your soul‘ (Evil Dead). Blood (DOS)

Blood is a typical Build-powered shooter with a gory twist to the action.
