And game creators can add specific events that are highlighted.

There are a number of solutions for recording your computer gaming, including OBS and Shadowplay. Now Valve is getting into the game by integrating its own solution directly into Steam, which they call Game Recording.

The feature is now in beta and includes several features, such as background recording that continuously captures what is happening and saves it to a specific location on one's computer, up to a specific storage limit. You can also use your Steam Overlay to quickly jump back to, for example, see what the hell it was that killed you. You can of course also start and stop recordings whenever you want.

The system also includes a timeline where you can mark points of interest you might want to look at later, and games can also include support for marking specific events that happen, such as dying or achieving something spectacular.

The clips can then be edited with a set of simpler tools, saved and sent between different devices. Recording is also supported on Steam Deck and can also be used in non-Steam games as long as they allow Steam Overlay.

How To
To test the beta version, open Steam, go to Settings – Interface – Beta Participation and select one of the beta versions. After restarting Steam, go to Settings - Game Recording and select the recording method you prefer.
