There has been some talk. It has been teased, and tassled. But not until now do we have a proper, official confirmation. With the release of Overwatch 2 in October, the original will be phased out and all focus is on the sequel. No more updates, patches or extensions then. The new version will simply replace the original.

Players have wondered, especially after a Reddit-AMA created some confusion. But now Blizzard has clarified what will happen:

“Overwatch 2 will replace the current Overwatch build”.

All player data and all progress will be transferred to the sequel, which is free-to-play unlike the first one. What repercussions this grip will have in the player base remains to be seen.

What are your thoughts about this?
