  4. Toolwiz Care View File Toolwiz Care is suite of system optimization tools, capable of fixing registry entries, deleting junk data, and speedind up the PC overall. The program offers a no-install option at setup initialization. In this case, you can rest assured that no new entries are added to the registry. Plus, you can run Toolwiz Care from any location on the hard disk, and on any machine from a pen drive or similar storage unit. The interface is user-friendly and offers quick access to all main features. You can get started by running a checkup on the system and view preliminary results. Monitoring download and upload speed, CPU and memory usage, CPU temperature, and disk access speed is possible in the main window or when hovering the mouse over a horizontal frame placed on top of the screen, which stays on top of other windows. Once the scanning procedure is done, you can ask Toolwiz Care to immediately fix all found issues. When it comes to the registry, the tool looks for Start menu, installation, uninstallation and application invalid ID keys, firewall expired keys, as well as corrupt application data, shared DLL, startup, font, help file, sound, ActiveX and COM entries. As for disk cleanup, the focus of activity shifts to Recycle Bin items, Windows temporary and log files, invalid shortcuts, empty folders in “Program Files”, system crash dump files, expired Prefetch items, and others. Supported web browsers for privacy cleaning include Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome: temporary, cache and cookies files, recent typed URLs, saved passwords, autocomplete form, Index.dat files etc. A tool that’s not included in the checkup is for analyzing disks. You can point out a drive or folder to view total files, folders, junk files, zero-sized files, empty folders, and huge files. To speed up the system, Toolwiz Care supplies a fast defrag method, startup applications manager and reporter, along with an optimizer engine for improving response time and system stability, GUI and Command response time, file system and network security and speed, application response speed, and others. These are just a small part of what Toolwiz Care has to offer. By exploring it further you can find out additional tools for shredding and splitting files, generating passwords, managing applications and context menu entries, and many more. The application is surprisingly light on the system resources, has an excellent response time and finishes scan-and-fix jobs rapidly. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and Toolwiz Care did not hang or crash. Although it’s rough around the edges (e.g. the registry cleaner didn’t fix all issues in our tests, although the tool labeled jobs as successful), users will find Toolwiz Care resourceful and practical (the app manager, for instance). 5. D-Fend Reloaded Running DOS games has never been easier... D-Fend Reloaded is a graphical environment for DOSBox. DOSBox emulates a complete computer including the DOS commandline and allows to run nearly all old DOS based games on modern hardware with any of the newer Windows versions. With DOSBox there is no need to worry about memory managers or free conventional RAM, but the setup of DOSBox is still a bit complicated. The configuration of DOSBox via textbased setup files might be difficult for beginners. D-Fend Reloaded may help and create these files for you. Additionally the D-Fend Reloaded installation package contains DOSBox (including all language files currently available), so there is only one installation to be run and no need to link D-Fend Reloaded with DOSBox manually. Easy start: The D-Fend Reloaded installer provides everything you need to run old DOS games (D-Fend Reloaded GUI, DOSBox, language files, FreeDos commandline tools). During the first start of D Fend Reloaded everything is set up automatically. Searching and sorting games: D-Fend Reloaded contains many service tools to keep the overview even in large game archives. Games can be filtered by categories like genre and year of publication, you can also conduct find as-you-type searches. For every game you can setup a data folder for manuals etc. Creating new profiles: Besides using the normal profile editor, new profiles may be added by the profile wizard. Additionally templates for different game types are integrated which need only the name and the path of the game as input. Managing profiles: D-Fend Reloaded collects all information regarding a certain program in its profile (program directory, screenshot directory, manual directory, icon file etc.). Therefore complete games may be deinstalled using D-Fend Reloaded and games can be copied from one installation to another. D-Fend Reloaded is also able to build installer packes to transfer games to other computers. (To use this feature you need NSIS.) Additionally complete games can be packed to zip and 7z files by the builtin zip support for archiving or transfering. Language support: DOSBox and D-Fend Reloaded are multilingual. The installer package contains all currently available language files. D-Fend Reloaded automatically sets up the DOSBox keyboard layout which refers to the language choosen for D-Fend Reloaded. Compability: D-Fend Reloaded can read D-Fend and DBFrondend config files. D-Fend Reloaded is completely compatible with Windows Vista (in particular it runs without admin rights). More highlights: Games can be installed from zip files without any configuration.. D-Fend Reloaded may be installed in a portable operation mode (for USB-Sticks etc.). Besides DOSBox you can also use ScummVM as emulator. Also Windows-based games can be managed in D-Fend Reloaded. With the integrated Bochs-FAT-Image-Creator you may create floppy and harddisk images to be used with DOSBox directly from the D-Fend Reloaded GUI. D-Fend Reloaded can create images from CDs and floppy disks which can be used as drives in DOSBox. Importing any zip file: Many people have archived their good old DOS games as zip archives. D-Fend Reloaded can import this zip archives directly and in my cases there is no need for any configuration at all (if D-Fend Reloaded has a matching auto setup template for the game). The easiest way of adding a game from a zip file is just dragging the zip file to the program window. D-Fend Reloaded portable: You may install D-Fend Reloaded in a portable operation mode on a USB stick. In the portable operation mode the base directory will be stored relative to the program folder. (And all other directories are stored relativ to the base directory.) This enables D-Fend Reloaded to find its files independendly from the drive and directory it is run from. There is also an PortableApps installation package of D-Fend Reloaded. ScummVM support: In D-Fend Reloaded you cannot only manage your DOSBox based game but also your ScummVM-based games. QBasic support: If you have installed a QBasic interpreter, you can also define a *.bas file as a program file in the profile editor. D-Fend Reloaded will call QBasic with the bas file a parameter inside DOSBox. Using virtual harddisks: Compared to D-Fend, the mount dialog has been extended representing all features of DOSBox. Additionally, the D-Fend Reloaded package contains the Bochs-FAT-Image-Creator. With this tool you may create harddisk and floppydisk images to be used with DOSBox. (Of course, this commandline tool may be controlled from the D-Fend Reloaded GUI directly.) Reading CDs and floppy disks: The content of CDs and floppy disks an be read and stored as ISO or IMG files. This drive images can be used in DOSBox as virtual drives. Screenshots, sounds and videos: D-Fend Reloaded has a screenshot, sound and video manager for previewing and saving the captured images, sounds and videos. The images can be stored as jpeg, gif, png and bmp images and the captured wave sounds can be encoded to mp3 and ogg format. Update checker: The Update checker can manually or automatically (at program start up) looks for updates and offer to download and install them. Usage of Windows-based games: You can also manage and start your Windows-based games via the D-Fend Reloaded user interface. This allows you to manage all your games (old and new ones) in one place. 6. ScummVM ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical adventure and role-playing games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! ScummVM is a complete rewrite of these games' executables and is not an emulator. ScummVM supports a huge library of adventures with over 250 games in total. It supports many classics published by legendary studios like LucasArts, Sierra On-Line, Revolution Software, Cyan, Inc. and Westwood Studios. Next to ground-breaking titles like the Monkey Island series, Broken Sword, Myst, Blade Runner and countless other games you will find some really obscure adventures and truly hidden gems to explore. You can find a full list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving. Among the systems on which you can play those games are Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, PS Vita, Switch, Dreamcast, AmigaOS, Atari/FreeMiNT, RISC OS, Haiku, PSP, PS3, Maemo, GCW Zero and many more... 10. Below you see the first look at the survival / action game Forever Skies. It is developed by the newcomer Far From Home, which consists of developers who have worked with a lot of well-known brands, such as Dying Light, Divinity Original Sin, Outriders and League of Legends. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that has been destroyed by an ecological disaster. But it's not just about venturing into the ruins of civilization and grabbing what you want, because the world is covered by a dangerous cloud of dust - almost like an ocean. To sail on this sea of dust, we have an airship that we will have to expand and develop according to our own taste. We will gather resources, meet enemies and venture into the toxic dust cloud to hunt down the pathogen to cure a disease that has affected our family, as well as to discover what happened to the world. The game will be released for PC and "next gen" consoles, but will before that come to early access on Steam in 2022.
  11. The fact that money has been raised for Star Citizen for almost ten years does not diminish people's willingness to contribute to the mammoth project. Last year, the game raised $85 million, according to Tweaktown. That is over 8 million dollars more than the previous record year 2020. Between 2013 and 2018, it pulled in just over 30 million dollars a year. In 2019, it increased to 47 million, followed by 77 million in 2020 and thus 85 million last year. That according to compilations here and here. That means an inflow of 232,000 dollars a day. Star Citizen has been crowdfunded since its launch in the fall of 2012, and a total of $427 million has fallen into the developers' account. By comparison, GTA V is often said to have been the most expensive game of all time, with a price tag of around 260 million dollars. The latest alpha version of Star Citizen was released at Christmas, and now carries version number alpha 3.16. Release dates do not yet exist, and are expected to be delayed. The same applies to the stand-alone campaign part Squadron 42, which can not yet be tested by buyers.
  12. Diablo 4 looks set to be released in 2023 at the earliest, as it's one of Blizzard's most anticipated upcoming games. Therefore, for natural reasons, they do not want to release a blunder, but a stable foundation on which they can build for many years. But we can at least enjoy that no less than nine minutes of new gameplay has been released. This is thanks to Blizzard's quarterly update for the game, which in addition to information about some of the game's various systems also includes several shorter videos that show how the game has developed in recent months. It includes, among other things, how magic and other things bounce light on the environment and how different attackers' "hit boxes" have been refined to better match the animation. Visually, it looks like it will be a really cool experience, so we can hope that the game mechanics keep pace.
  13. Streamelements has released its State of the Stream review for 2021. Among other things, we see that the number of streamed hours on Twitch increased sharply compared with the year before. In 2021, we have streamed 24 billion hours, while the sum for 2020 was "only" 17 billion. Streaming on Facebook has also increased, from 3.6 billion to 5.3 billion hours. When it comes to individual games, it is Grand Theft Auto 5 that has established itself in this year's first place, with 2.1 billion streamed hours. It is followed by League of Legends, with 1.8 billion hours, and then Fortnite, with 1 billion hours. The biggest debut game was in turn New World, with 259 million hours and an 18th place on the list of teams. However, gaming has not been the biggest category on Twitch during the year - not in the long run actually. Instead, it was "Just Chatting" that snagged that honor, with 3.1 billion hours. As the name suggests, it is a category where you mostly sit and talk, and many game streamers hang out there between their game sessions to talk to fans, among other things.
  14. It feels a little funny that Pharaoh, a game about ancient Egypt, has the title A New Era. But! At the same time, we must remember that the game is a remake of Pharaoh that was released at the end of the last millennium. A lot is similar in the remake that "soon" will be released on Steam. The isometric perspective is in place, and the gameplay seems pretty untouched. Graphically, however, it is polished. The new 4k trailer shows the evolution from 1999 to today, and a lot has happened. The team reveals in the trailer description that the interface has received a boost. The package also includes the expansion from 2000, Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile. All in all, we will be offered many hours of strategy. "The game's campaign challenges players to develop cities throughout six different periods of ancient Egypt, building up trade centers, grand cities, and more. Pharaoh: A New Era includes the 2000 expansion, Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile, bundling more than 100 hours of gameplay, 53 missions, a full map and mission editor, and a Free Build mode into the ultimate celebration of the original genre-defining classic." There is no release date, but "soon" still sounds pretty optimistic.
  15. Sam Fisher is on his way back, but not in a whole new game (as far as we know), but in a remake of the first game. The remake will be made in Snowdrop Engine, which has been used primarily in The Division games. Matt West from Ubisoft says that they are still early in development and that the game is being rebuilt from scratch. However, they want to maintain the spirit of the original game, and for example, it will still be about linear paths rather than an open game world. Ubisoft Toronto is responsible for the development, and they themselves state that there are many veterans in the team who have worked on previous Splinter Cell games. They say they want to build a stable base for Splinter Cell's future, and in the video above they also say that "the return of the series is glimpsed on the horizon". It therefore sounds like the series may be revived seriously, unless they just refer to the VR game that is underway. We do not yet have a release date for Splinter Cell Remake, nor do we know which platforms it will be released on.
  16. As previously promised, Techland has recently released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for the upcoming Dying Light 2: Stay Human ( here is one of the previous ones). The demonstration seems to take place fairly early in the game and shows how the player gets a flight screen to be able to get from roof to roof more easily. The flight screen can advantageously be controlled over various warm air currents which, among other things, air conditioners seem to spit out, in order to extend the flight and get some height. It all leads to a transformer station where the player encounters one of the factions in the game, Peacekeepers. Then it becomes a fight, where we get to see everything from jump kicks to how the duck hook can be used to get enemies out of balance. This is followed by a simpler puzzle where electrical cables must be routed to the right place. When it's done, the player can choose which faction will benefit from this transformer station, which this time is Peacekeepers or Survivors. Both come with different benefits, which in Peacekeepers' case is that they install "car traps" in all zones they control, while Survivors place airbags in all their zones. The game has recently " gone gold ", which means that it is, more or less, ready to be pressed on record. With that said, Techland is learning to work on it fully with its day 1 patch so that it is ready just in time for the release on February 4. It comes to Playstation 4/5, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch (via streaming).
  17. Around sixty employees at Raven Software arranged a walkout on Monday in protest of Friday's dismissals in the studio's Quality Assurance team. During the period 3-8 December, the contract employees in the QA team will find out if they get a full-time job at Raven, or if their time at the studio is over. Twelve employees, a third of the studio's QA team, were notified on Friday that they had been laid off. It states the Washington Post. The demand from the strikers, which consists of both full-time and contract employees, is that the entire QA team should get full-time employment at Raven. This also applies to those who are fired on Friday. They also highlighted the importance of the QA team for the studio's work and well-being. Eurogamer quotes: "In response to the events of Friday, the Raven QA team and other members of Raven's staff will be walking out with a singular demand: Every member of the QA team, including those terminated on Friday, must be offered full time positions. The Raven QA department is essential to the day-to-day functioning of the studio as a whole. Terminating the contracts of high performing testers in a time of consistent work and profit puts the health of the studio at risk." The parent company Activision Blizzard has announced that they support their employees' right to express their opinions and concerns without fear of reprisals from the company. They also stated that the dismissals on Friday were part of a major restructuring of contract employees at the company, and that within the coming months they plan to provide full-time employment to 500 of them. "Activision publishing is growing its overall investment in its development and operations resources. We are converting approximately 500 temporary workers to full-time employees in the coming months. Unfortunately, as part of this change, we also have notified 20 temporary workers across studios that their contracts would not be extended." The work environment at Activision Blizzard has been a hot topic lately, yesterday's walkout was the third of its kind at the company since July, when the allegations of sexual harassment at the company emerged. Since then, employees have also demanded the resignation of CEO Bobby Kotick when they revealed how much he knew about the harassment, and most recently it was announced that Activision Blizzard is not welcome at The Game Awards this Thursday night. For most people today, Raven Software is probably best known as a support developer for the Call of Duty series, but the older ones among us probably also remember the Jedi Knight - and Soldier of Fortune series among the studio's works.
  18. Funcom is once again in the process of creating a multiplayer / survival game, but instead of barbarians and hydrographs, rival families and sandworms are common. In October , they announced that they were looking for new people to develop this Dune game, and now we know that they will also receive help from the studio Nukklear. Nukklear has previously worked with games such as Everspace 2 , Destroy All Humans and Comanche , and on their website they write that the Dune game will be inspired by one of Funcom's other survival titles, Conan Exiles . According to Nukklear, the scope of the game has been significantly expanded thanks to an investment from Tencent, which is why they have been hired to provide assistance. Kirk Lenke, CEO of Nukklear, had the following to say: "We are grateful that Funcom has hired us to help bring Dune to a new medium. We have provided support to and collaborated on many projects over the years, but tackling Dune is without a doubt the biggest so far."
