The cast of Ridley Scott's sequel is growing every day. Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan have now joined in the gladiatorial arena.

The ensemble in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" sequel is now being expanded every day with new names. Yesterday it was clear that Barry Keoghan has been cast, today it is Denzel Washington who steps in to the ring.

The veteran actor who we could see in everything from "Malcolm X" and Scott's "American Gangster" to "The Equalizer" is negotiating for the film's second major role, writes Deadline .

"Gladiator 2" is the continuation of the grand and brutal story that took place in the year 180 in ancient Rome. Russell Crowe's character Maximus is dead, now we get to follow the boy Lucius who has grown up. He is played by Oscar-nominated shooting star Paul Mescal ("Aftersun"). The original film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won 5, including Best Picture.
