Assassin's Creed Valhalla handles arrow types differently than most RPGs, so players may have some trouble figuring out how to change arrows at first.

In most RPG games, players can obtain a variety of arrow types that can be used with their bow, ranging from fire arrows to explosive arrows and, in some fantasy games, even elemental arrows. Assassin's Creed Valhalla handles this a little differently though, so players would be forgiven for not understanding how to switch arrows.

Whereas in most games the arrow fired from the bow determines the effect, Assassin's Creed Valhalla puts the emphasis on which type of bow the player is using. Unlike Assassin's Creed Odyssey where players could obtain various different types of arrows, there is only one collectible arrow type in Valhalla.

Instead, players can equip one of three different types of bows that work in different ways. The options available at the time of writing to players are Hunter Bows, Predator Bows, and Light Bows. Players will start with a Hunter Bow, but other types can be found or purchased while playing through the game.

As the starting bow, the Hunter Bow is predictably the weakest of the three kinds. It's performance is standard and players will certainly be able to deal some damage with it but it doesn't excel at any one particular purpose. By contrast, the Light Bow is more suited for short range encounters, and can fire arrows much faster than the other two types of bows. Finally, the Predator Bow is Assassin's Creed Valhalla's sniper rifle, firing arrows at insane distances and dealing heavy damage with each shot. Using the right bow in the right situation can be key to victory.

For those wondering about fire arrows and the like, they do still exist in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, though not in the same capacity as they did in Odyssey. This time, players will need to stay aware of their surroundings, as open fires in the area can be used to light arrows aflame. This works especially well with the Predator Bow, as it makes each shot that much deadlier. For poison arrows, players will have to unlock Eivor's Ranged Poison Strike ability that allows them to apply poison to arrows.

This approach to arrow types may take some getting used to, especially for those players fresh off the back of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's archery, but with time it should become second nature. Essentially, switching arrow types is as simple as switching bows or changing Eivor's gender, but players wanting to apply further affects will need to use skills or their surroundings to do so.

Tldr; Change bow to change arrows...

It's all good ❤️
