    Elvira

Elvira View File The game where entering the wrong place meant a painful and extraordinary death. A game that has as much atmosphere and style as the main character herself - Elvira. The problem with these very old RPGs is that it is quite difficult to find the cons, especially when in their heyday virtually no one noticed them. From today's point of view, one minor downside would be perhaps a little more complicated control, and worse orientation in space between rooms. But now for the story. Elvira has a little problem. In a way, she discovered a great castle, and she would like to remake it to her image - a cozy home is always a good idea. But it is Elvira, and so she inadvertently awakened Queen Emalda, who was rotting there for hundreds of years. And hundreds of years of rotting queens will not go to the beauty salon after waking up. No. Such queens, when woken up, think of nothing but world domination. The only way to stop it is a special scroll hidden somewhere in that castle. But there is one small problem ... the castle has 800 rooms full of dangerous traps and wonderful creatures. But who wouldn't help dear Elvira, just look at her eyes and you must fall in love! Blood

Blood View File Blood is a typical Build-powered shooter with a gory twist to the action. While not being the first ever horror-themed FPS in existence, Blood does get dubious praise for being more dark and visceral than anything before it. Zombies, demons, religious fanatics and other nasty things are out to get you in this dark, tattered, maggoty, festering computer game. Even though Blood can be gross as hell, it’s not the least bit off-putting because of it. In fact, its bleak atmosphere and numerous horror-film references scattered throughout the game make it a joy to play. Picture walking through a moonlit Crystal Lake and finding Jason’s iconic ski mask in his rickety cabin. Or stumbling upon a frozen Jack Torrence in a snowy hedge maze. All of that is here, plus much more. With its quirky humor and macabre imagery, Blood has the strange quality of being both foul and alluring at the same time. Playing the role of a resurrected gunslinger out for revenge, Blood successfully copies what made Duke Nukem 3D great and places the action in a sort of hellish version of the world, one ruled by dark gods, insane cultists, vicious demons and loinclothed loons who fling their arms in panic. Other than the poor loinclothed guys who always get caught in a crossfire, Blood throws in everything from pesky rats and spiders to giant stone gargoyles, with a great many drawn from famous works of horror. Most common among them are axe-wielding George Romero-style Zombies and machingun-totting cultists that spout insane babble. The trigger-happy Cultists will cause the most trouble, as their lightning-quick reflexes and sharp aim make them awfully challenging to kill. Other enemies up for spillage is the Bloated Butcher, Phantasm (a spooky ghost with a scythe), Hell Hound and four different boss characters. Blood’s most novel enemy is the disembodied hand that chokes the life out of you. Pressing ‘Use’ repeatedly will force it off. You can even here the hand utter ‘I’ll swallow your soul‘ (Evil Dead). Jigsaw has killed your partner and destroyed your life. Now he has trapped you in an abandoned insane asylum that he alone controls. If you can defeat his brutal traps and survive, you may just discover the truth behind what drives this twisted serial killer. SAW is a third-person perspective, survival horror game based on the SAW film franchise, which has grossed more than $665M worldwide and sold more than 28 million DVDs. The game features many of the deadly mechanical traps seen in the film, as well as terrifying new ones. Players will pit their wits against Jigsaw as they navigate his world in an attempt to evade and escape his gruesome traps, while also struggling against his minions in brutal combat by using weapons found within the environment. SAW, the video game, is based on a treatment from Zombie Studios and the creators of the SAW franchise, Leigh Whannell and James Wan. The timeline for the game takes place between the movies: SAW and SAW II, giving the game its own story, yet fitting within the narratives of the movies. The story centers on Detective David Tapp who awakens in a decrepit, abandoned asylum. He has been captured by his longtime nemesis, Jigsaw. Obsessed with catching this serial killer, Tapp’s mission has consumed him and ruined his family, resulting in divorce, mental imbalance, and abandonment. Worse yet, this frantic hunt destroyed Tapp’s career while he watched his long-time friend and partner get killed by one of Jigsaw’s traps. Now Jigsaw has the upper hand and has captured the detective. Tapp must play a deadly game—the likes of which he has been investigating for years—to escape, and in order to do so he must survive the lethal traps and puzzles that Jigsaw has put in place for him and others. But each victim has a dark connection to Tapp. Will Tapp save them? Can he survive his obsession to find the Jigsaw killer?

Resident Evil 2 is a 1998 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. The player controls Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who must escape Raccoon City after its citizens are transformed into zombies by a biological weapon two months after the events of the original Resident Evil. The gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzles, and combat; the main difference from its predecessor are the branching paths, with each player character having unique storylines, partners and obstacles. Resident Evil 2 was produced by Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami, directed by Hideki Kamiya, and developed by a team of around 50 over 21 months. The initial version, commonly referred to as Resident Evil 1.5, differed drastically; it was canceled when it was around two thirds complete after Mikami decided it was inadequate. The final design introduced a more cinematic presentation. Resident Evil 2 received acclaim for its atmosphere, setting, graphics, audio, scenarios, and overall gameplay, as well as its improvements over the original game, but with some criticism towards its controls, voice acting and certain gameplay elements. It has appeared on a number of lists of the best video games ever made. It is the best-selling Resident Evil game for a single platform at more than 6 million copies sold across all platforms. It was ported to Windows, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and GameCube, and a modified 2.5D version was released for the Game.com handheld.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a 1999 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. It is the third game in the Resident Evil series and takes place almost concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 2. The player must control former elite agent Jill Valentine as she escapes from a city that has been infected by a virus. The game uses the same engine as its predecessors and features 3D models over pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles. Choices through the game affect how the story unfolds and which ending is achieved. Resident Evil 3 was developed concurrently with Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and was originally conceived as a spin-off featuring a different protagonist, before being promoted as the last numbered Resident Evil game for the PlayStation. It was designed to have a more action-oriented gameplay than its predecessors and features a larger number of enemies for the player to defeat. It also introduces Nemesis, a creature that periodically pursues the player throughout the game and that was inspired by the T-1000 Terminator from the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Accompanied by a major marketing campaign, Resident Evil 3 received very positive reviews from critics and sold more than three million copies worldwide. Critics praised the game's detailed graphics and Nemesis as an intimidating villain, but some criticized its short length. Shortly after its release on the PlayStation, Resident Evil 3 was ported to Windows, Dreamcast and GameCube with varying degrees of critical success. In particular, the GameCube version was criticized for its relatively high retail price and outdated graphics.

    The Thing

The Thing is an action survival adventure game, with a dense atmosphere and a lot of tension. After the mysterious death of a US scientific expedition in frozen Antarctica, a military rescue team set out to investigate their deaths. In these inhospitable conditions, your team will discover a special form of life that takes the appearance of the organisms it has killed. The struggle for survival can begin. The game, of course, follows on from the film of the same name, which takes place shortly after the events seen in the film of 1982. In the game, you return to the Antarctic base and the famous places from the film. Including a new chapter full of isolation of fear and paranoia. The atmosphere of fear works more than well, especially in the first half of the game, the suspicion of other people and their psyche gave the game a new dimension, at the time of release the game looked graphically nice, the cool dark environment was ideal and the enemies were as disgusting as in the movie. It is a pity that in the second half of the game there are fewer of those surprises, the fights with the soldiers do not have such juice and the solid atmosphere will also relax a bit. In any case, just as Carpenter's The Thing is one of the best horror movies, so the game is one of the best games.

Planet Earth has been invaded by aliens, transforming humans into a walking zombies, so they're easier to control. The only hope of humanity is Harry (the game is often also referred to the original name from 1985 - Haloween Harry), in which the role you put yourself you. You have to skip through many levels where you fight against all sorts of aliens and your mission is to free as many humans as possible and eventually save the entire Earth. During the game you will find different weapons, most have a very limiting ammo, so be careful what you shoot on. Game Alien Carnage is a great side-scrolling platformer that Apogee released in 2007 as freeware.

  15. The term "pixel perfection" gets thrown around a bit sometimes, but in the case of The Excavation of Hob's Barrow (pc) it feels justified. Looks fantastic! The adventure is about antiquarian Thomasina Bateman who, via a mysterious letter, ends up in a sleepy small town with buried secrets. Maybe you're not trying to prevent people from getting in, but something from getting out ? Well, this is an adventure with underlying horror, with a so-called pagan horror ("folk horror"). The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is being developed by the skilled Cloak and Dagger Games, but a perhaps greater stamp of quality is that Wadjet Eye acts as publisher. The modern champions of point-and-click adventures have brought us Blackwell, Gemini Rue, Technobabylon, and Unavowed, among others .
  16. We haven't exactly been spoiled with cool dinosaur games in recent years, but The Lost Wild looks like it could be an interesting title. Now we've got a new trailer for the game, but unfortunately it's not a pure gameplay trailer. Instead, it's more of a cinematic showcase, but it looks to be in-engine and we'll hope it's representative of the actual game, because it looks really good. The dinosaurs in this survival/horror game will use advanced AI that allows them to adapt to what is happening, so maybe something along the lines of Alien Isolation? The developers also say that we will be faced with dinosaurs that behave like wild animals, not monsters. It's entirely single-player, and the focus is on stealth and survival, not action. We still don't have a release date, but they're teasing us that it's coming to Steam "soon", according to the video description - on the other hand, it says "2024" on Steam, so it's a bit unclear. There are also plans for versions for the current gen consoles, but they don't specify a specific time frame for when that might happen.
