If you could allow us to show ads it would be really much appreciated. It's our main source of income and helps us keeping the site up and running and bringing you free stuff. It costs you nothing to see a few ads, but it means a lot to us. Thanks! ×

  1. Netflix's Resident Evil series has endured a lot of criticism. Most criticism has and to do with it has very little to do with the video game series and is more of a teen drama. The series premiered on July 14th and rushed straight into the top 10, but fell away rather quickly after the criticism. Although the series did not follow the storyline from the games, iconic monsters and characters from the video game series appeared, but in different guises. The most positive criticism was received by the actor Lance Riddick for his portrayal of Albert Wesker. Even though Lance doesn't look like Wesker in the games, most people agree that he did a good acting job. The scriptwriters had big plans for the series such as introducing the gigantic giantess Lady Dimitrescu. But now it won't be like that, Netflix simply cuts off the head of Resident Evil and lets it rot away. Would you like a new season of Resident Evil?
  2. Earlier this year we found out that Sony is working with Netflix on a series based on the Horizon games. We weren't given a lot of information at the time, but gaming journalist Jeff Grubb claimed shortly thereafter that the series was then called Horizon 2074 and is meant to run parallel to the games, rather than being a reinterpretation, sequel, or prequel. We don't know what the situation is with these details, as they are only rumors, but now we have received a small piece of very significant information. According to an interview with Netflix, Steve Blackman - executive producer of The Umbrella Academy - will lead the production of the series. When asked what he is most looking forward to in the story, he answers the well-developed world and the fantastic characters, and above all confirms that Aloy is the main character in the Netflix series as well. We don't have any dates to go on at the moment, and it will probably be a while before filming even starts.
  3. According to Bloomberg, Netflix is considering charging between $7-9 for the upcoming ad-supported subscription. The goal is to attract subscribers who think Netflix costs too much and can imagine watching advertising in exchange for a lower monthly cost. The source also writes that Netflix aims to show about four minutes of advertising per hour. The information comes from people who are supposed to have insight into Netflix's plans. The advertising will be shown before and during films and series - but not after. Bloomberg writes that Netflix wants to avoid frustrating customers, for example by not showing the same ads time and time again. The advertising is also claimed to be less targeted, so that most customers will see the same ads. Netflix has said that the new subscription is expected to be generally available in early 2023. Microsoft will handle the advertising. According to an analysis company, the subscription with advertising could generate a total of 8.5 billion dollars for Netflix annually. The sum includes revenue from the subscription itself and from advertising.
  4. This summer, analyzes were released that indicate that less than one percent of all Netflix subscribers consume Netflix games on a daily basis. Yep, Netflix is investing in games, which you might have missed. Currently, you get access to roughly 40 mobile games, all of which require Android or Apple format. Now, however, we get strong indications that Netflix intends to invest in PC games – from triple-A cuts (via Mobilegamer). Now they intend to hire a game director for their Los Angeles-based studio. What this will do is build the vision for a “brand new AAA PC game”. "We’re looking for a creative and highly-skilled Game Director to help us forge the game direction and creative vision on a brand-new AAA PC game. As Game Director, you will be the creative leader of one of Netflix’s first generation of internally developed original games. That sounds ambitious. Having experience from fps and/or shooters in third person is meritorious. The Los Angeles studio is led by Chacko Sonny, who was previously the executive producer of Overwatch. Netflix has previously said that via the LA studio it wants to invest in cloud gaming, but that it should work as a complement to the Netflix range rather than competing with game consoles. The question is how this will go. With the Stadia shutdown fresh in mind, there are question marks to clear up.
  5. Netflix and Ubisoft are now saying they will collaborate on the development of three mobile games for Netflix from some of the world's most beloved gaming franchises starting in 2023. The three games are expansions of the Valiant Hearts, Mighty Quest and Assassin's Creed universes and will be available exclusively on mobile for Netflix subscribers, without ads or in-app purchases. This is how Netflix writes about the three games: "A new Valiant Hearts game – the successor to Ubisoft's multi-award winning game Valiant Hearts – is directed by the original core team and will retain the same DNA but have a new story. The game will be available to Netflix members in January 2023. Following the critically acclaimed mobile game The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, The Mighty Quest is coming to Netflix in 2023 with a new game. This time around, the game will draw inspiration from the roguelike genre to deliver an experience that celebrates the series premiere of hack'n'slash combat in a fresh and replayable format. Assassin's Creed fans will be able to immerse themselves in the Assassin's Creed universe on Netflix in more ways than one: In addition to the previously announced live-action series, a brand new mobile game is being developed exclusively for Netflix.
  6. The streaming service had grand, Marvel-inspired plans for Tolkien's Middle-earth, with new TV series about Aragorn and Gandalf. JRR Tolkien's relatives have been quite protective of the rights to his books and characters. After Peter Jackson's film trilogies, it took a long time before Amazon was allowed to record "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" which we have been able to stream this fall. But Amazon was far from the only streaming service trying to get its paws on the precioussss rights. A major article published by THR reveals that both HBO and Netflix were involved in the bidding war. HBO's plan was a remake of the "Lord of the Rings" movies, something Tolkien's family wasn't too keen on. And even though Netflix actually offered "hundreds of millions more" than Amazon, they got the nod. The reason was Netflix's gigantic pitch, where they wanted to take on Midgard with several new television projects. Among other things, "a TV series about Gandalf and a drama about Aragorn" are mentioned. "They wanted to do like Marvel and it scared the crap out of Tolkien's family," says a source. Amazon were the ones who ultimately came up with the winning idea, but still had to shell out well over $200 million for the rights. Since this summer, the Swedish game group Embracer has been managing the rights, and they have already talked about the availability of several new films, series and games. Who knows, maybe Netflix will get the opportunity to dive into Middle-earth after all?
