After months of rumors and speculation, Valve finally unveiled its laptop gaming PC named Steam Deck. It is an AMD-powered device in the same shape as a Nintendo Switch and with the same price range. When the pre-orders started, the cheapest variant cost 419 euros. But while Nintendo seems to be increasing its profit margin, it seems that Valve is best able to recoup the costs - Gabe Newell calls the pricing "painful" in an interview with IGN. Sony and Microsoft also sell their gaming machines at a loss, hoping to gain it on the game sales, but Newell believes that Valve does not have such a calculation. Instead, they are more interested in seeing the effect of this type of device on the entire ecosystem of PC gaming, in the long run. Of course he hopes that they will sell millions of Steam Deck but, Valve can also afford to take these kind of chances. IGN was also among the first in the world to test a prototype of the Steam Deck and you can hear their first thoughts, mixed with interviews with Valve people, below.
