  1. In the first ten days, more than 25 million have played Overwatch 2, compared to the 15 million that attracted the original in the first three months. The bragging numbers come from Blizzard themselves, who claim that the sequel completely crushed the original's peak for concurrent players. Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra says in a press release that the moment is important for Blizzard. "The launch of Overwatch 2 has been such an important moment for Blizzard. This is only the beginning—there are so many possibilities to explore in the world of Overwatch, and we cannot wait for players to experience everything the team is building for the live game. Worth mentioning is that the second is free-to-play, while the first was a game we bought. It should also be emphasized that the reporting about the game's problems is piled high. Blizzard has promised compensation in the form of double xp weekends. The Metacritic average is really low, but on the other hand, Blizzard is used to even lower averages . Whether this is a consolation is debatabl
  2. This year’s The Game Awards will be broadcast soon. So expect the week ahead to be filled with noble thistles and tassels – and now smoking hot stuff is coming from a diabolical direction. According to several sources, including Insider Gaming, we should prepare for big Diablo IV news during The Game Awards, when “more than 100 journalists” will have had the chance to both see and test the game in advance. Journalists should be encouraged to watch the Game Awards, when news will be released. Glitched reports that we may get dates during the show. Windows Central’s Jez Corden says for his part that the big announcement is about those who pre-order getting early access to the beta. There have previously been whispers of a release announcement during the Game Awards, and April was highlighted as the release month. Corden believes that it could rather be a window from April to June. June can therefore be the logical release month. "I’ve heard the earlier reported April 2023 launch date for Diablo 4 might have represented the earlier end of a launch window, with some recent rumors I’ve received suggesting the launch date could in fact be June.
  3. The release for Diablo IV is approaching, and is rumored to take place already in April. In the past, Blizzard has said that the adventure will take around 35 hours to complete – if you focus on the story. There is, of course, much more to see. In a new interview, Blizzard believes that the open world does not interfere with the story. Rod Fergusson, general manager, tells IGN that their open world isn’t of the same caliber as, say, Zelda: Breath of the Wild . It’s not completely organic and you can’t go anywhere. "That’s not really our story. Our story allows for non-linearity, but there is a story – we wanted to have a beginning, middle, and end. Fergusson says that you can take advantage of the story for a while with breaks for side missions. What is important to point out is that there is a beginning, middle and end – and a more open world around it.
  4. The gang behind the Call of Duty games continues to work on reducing the number of cheaters and people who misbehave with others. A consequence of that is that half a million Call of Duty players have been banned so far. In addition, 300,000 account names have been changed since an automatic filtering system was launched. The changes apply to names that are judged to be offensive, offensive and similar. The administration uses both automatic systems and human moderators to keep chats and names in order. The policy has been tightened and the amount of offensive nicknames is said to have decreased by 55 percent after that. But it is expected to continue fighting against unwanted behavior in the future as well. It's windy at the top, as it's usually called.
  5. Yesterday we reported on the massive GTA 6 leak, where tons of footage, source code, and other material from Rockstar's blockbuster game seems to have leaked online. Blizzard is probably not happy now but might just not be that sad either, because it took some of the spotlight off the fact that a Diablo 4 leak also appeared yesterday. There are two leaked gameplay videos totaling 43 minutes. The movie shows how a Barbarian runs some quests, and also the skill tree, the shop and more. It is of course an unfinished game seen in the videos, which does not necessarily look like the finished game will. Reddit has a link to a place where the videos can still be seen, but that can change quickly.
  6. According to a new blog post on the Overwatch website, new players in Overwatch 2 will have to play 100 matches to unlock all the characters from the original Overwatch game . The idea is to keep new players from feeling overwhelmed and give them the chance to learn all the modes and characters at their own pace. But it also says this. This means that these restrictions only exist when it comes to competitive games and not if you run practice matches with family and friends. Overwatch 2 will be released in Early Access on October 4th and will be completely free to play. Blizzard has promised that the game will have no loot boxes and will have a seasonal format. Season 1 starts on the 4th followed by season 2 starting later in December. There will also be a PVE mode released at a later date, but no date has been set there yet.
  7. Overwatch 2 is having a rough start. Everything from DDOS to server queues. It's becoming quite a theme over at the Blizzard headquarters, server queues, it's almost as Blizzard was a small indie company living of off funding from a kickstarter project and not a billion dollar company. If you try and join a Overwatch 2 game now, you should not be surprised if you are put in a hour long queue with upwards to 20,000 people in front of you also waiting to join. And it's not likely to get better at this hour when people on the American servers are coming home from their jobs and schools trying to log in. Also because of the servers being DDOS'ed you can enjoy random disconnects from games. I would suggest to not play ranked for the next few days. Overwatch have been running for six years and up until the launch today. The company even had the entire game down for server maintenance several hours before opening the doors at launch, still, they couldn't anticipate the huge influx of players wanting to play the brand new Overwatch 2 at launch day. It's not like they didn't know that people wanted to play, and they already had the experience just recently with the release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Good luck playing for the next few days. What are your thoughts on the release of Overwatch 2?
  8. Overwatch 2 was released a couple of days ago, and some really lucky players have actually been able to play it. The usual server problems that appear at most releases of online games have been present, and Blizzard says that the game has been subjected to DDoS attacks. Now Blizzard has come out and apologized for the release, which they say did not meet the expectations of the players or their own. Regarding actually getting into the game, they say they’ve updated a server to make the login itself more reliable, and they’re working on another update to reduce the risk of being disconnected once you get into the game. Unfortunately, they don’t mention anything about increasing server capacity, so expect continued queues during popular hours of the day. When it comes to missing in-game items, they say half of the cases are due to the players in question simply not completing the process to merge their Overwatch and Overwatch 2 accounts, which is partly caused by a missing prompt to do so on some consoles. For the other half, it’s because the transfer takes a bit of time, but they assure that no items or data are lost. In conclusion, they address the equally criticized as appreciated decision to require SMS verification for all accounts, and which in many cases requires having a phone plan rather than a prepaid card. Some believe this excludes people who can’t afford an ongoing subscription, some of whom have been playing the first Overwatch for years. In response, Blizzard has now decided to remove the phone requirement for anyone who has played Overwatch since June 9, 2021. Those players will be able to play Overwatch 2 (or at least queue up to try to get in) starting October 7, which is tomorrow , If everything goes as planned.
  9. The joke about the lack of mobile phones is perhaps starting to get a little tired, but now the fact is that it is starting to be needed even for non-mobile games. Blizzard stated that Overwatch 2 requires players to have a mobile number to play and now it appears that this also applies to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reboot . It must of course also be a "real" number, prepaid cards and the like will not be accepted. Requiring a mobile number for ranked play has been done before as both Dota 2 and Rainbow Six Siege have been running it since 2017. But requiring a number to access the game is relatively new. In any case, the idea is that it should help stop some of the toxic players out there.
  10. Overwatch 2 is not even ten days old and has already managed to acquire a rich list of problems - which players will be compensated with via various cosmetic tinkering and double xp weekends. Now Blizzard is investigating another bug, which some PC players are forced to deal with. Blizzard reports computers shutting down or restarting when players play Overwatch 2. They encourage affected players to submit their DXDIAG, which you can do via Blizzard's forums. Blizzard has released several games that saw off the ankles, such as Diablo Immortal and the Warcraft 3 remaster. At the moment, the Metacritic score for Overwatch 2 is also abysmal. One possible fix we have already discussed:
  11. Are you afraid of missing out items, gear, cosmetics etc. from season passes if you don't play enough? This poll is mostly directed towards the upcoming Overwatch 2 release but feel free to vote and comment your thoughts. Overwatch 2 will have no loot-boxes, instead they will have a season pass that last a few months until the next season. What if you don't unlock everything in season 1 or if you only have the free pass since you feel like (or can't afford) the premium pass, do you feel left out knowing that that skin you wanted in season 1 is now out of reach? What are your thoughts and how do you feel a season pass should be and/or work best?
  12. During the Xbox show, it was clear that Diablo IV will (if not delayed, that is) be released during the first half of 2023. Exciting, and a little scary considering the criticism that Diablo Immortal is currently receiving. Above all, it is "pay to win" criticism that abounds. Now Blizzard more or less seems to want to say that Diablo IV is not based on the same principles as Immortal. Rod Fergusson, responsible for Diablo, tweets : "To clarify, Diablo IV is a full-price game built for PC, Playstation and Xbox audiences. The game will be built around "voluntary cosmetic gadgets and story-driven expansions", which sounds like something other than Immortal . After Warcraft III: Reforged and Diablo Immortal, for example, confidence in Blizzard is not at its peak. It remains to be seen if Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV can restore it in any way.
  13. It finally happened, it's finally here. Blizzard and the Overwatch team just announced Overwatch 2 beta, and it's arriving at late April. They also announced that they will split the PvP and PvE content in order to provide faster updates and content for the both. But wait, that's not all. During the announcement Aron Keller took the time and apologized for the current way the team have handled Overwatch content (or the lack off) and promised to be better. Video in the comments. This is huge news for the entire Overwatch community, and a well deserved one! Stay tuned for more news about Overwatch 2, it's one of my all time favorite games. It's finally time to be excited again, we haven't felt that for a looong time. Here are the major items you can expect to see from the first beta! 5v5 New Hero: Sojourn New Maps Circuit Royal - New escort map Midtown - New hybrid map New Queen Street - New push map Colosseo - New push map New Mode:Push Hero Reworks New Ping System Beta sign ups can be done here.
  14. Earlier today, Blizzard revealed that the ninth and next (but certainly not last) World of Warcraft expansion will be unveiled on April 19. There will be more WoW news, as Blizzard confirms that they will show the World of Warcraft game in mobile format in May. Exactly what it will look like is anybody's guess, but the project has been going on for a long time. There have been rumors of a Pokémon Go clone (thank you, Eurogamer), but Bobby Kotick has also said that there are "several mobile free-to-play Warcraft experiences" planned. Promise? Threat? We shall see. As early as March 15, the next Hearthstone expansion will be unveiled and "shortly thereafter" we will get a deeper insight into the plans for the game for the remainder of 2022. At the same time, the wait for some form of Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 news continues. It has previously sounded like they are not too far away.
  15. Blizzard has slipped here and there in recent years, and not least the entire Activision Blizzard has had its eyes on it after reports of a deeply problematic workplace. Last week, however, it was all about how Microsoft intends to buy the questionable gaming giant for a breathtaking 68 billion dollars. Will it be a fresh start for Blizzard? Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra, who is the sole boss after Jen Oneal's resignation, writes that the company has taken steps to "rebuild trust". You look ahead, but do not close your eyes to what has happened. The focus is on doing their best, both for the players and the employees, writes Ybarra. The foundation is laid for the latter by creating a "safe, inclusive and creative" work environment, where employees should be able to continuously evaluate the management of the company. Whether you succeed or not remains to be seen, because there is, after all, a difference between fine words and actual changes. Blizzard is currently developing Diablo IV and Overwatch 2, among others.
  16. Diablo 4 looks set to be released in 2023 at the earliest, as it's one of Blizzard's most anticipated upcoming games. Therefore, for natural reasons, they do not want to release a blunder, but a stable foundation on which they can build for many years. But we can at least enjoy that no less than nine minutes of new gameplay has been released. This is thanks to Blizzard's quarterly update for the game, which in addition to information about some of the game's various systems also includes several shorter videos that show how the game has developed in recent months. It includes, among other things, how magic and other things bounce light on the environment and how different attackers' "hit boxes" have been refined to better match the animation. Visually, it looks like it will be a really cool experience, so we can hope that the game mechanics keep pace.
