Writer Beau DeMayo has worked on both Netflix’s The Witcher series and also the animated The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. According to him, some of the Netflix Witcher writing team (unclear if he means the live action series or the anime, but he says “Witcher” – which sounds like the series) weren’t very enthusiastic. Rather the opposite. He tells The Direct:
I’ve been on shows – namely Witcher – where some of the writers were not [fans] or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material).
Among other things, DeMayo has written two Witcher episodes and acted as screenwriter for the anime.
He believes that the prerequisites were a recipe for “disaster and bad morale”. And no, being “disliked” and even “mocked” by the team doesn’t exactly sound like a breeding ground for success. But the fact is that The Witcher on Netflix has just become a great success, with a third season underway in the summer of 2023.
Not to mention a new trilogy of games as well as a remake of the original.
