Now we get a preview of Jamie Clayton as the iconic horror figure in the upcoming reboot.
A reboot of Clive Barker’s classic from 1987 has been on G since last year and we previously wrote about the “Sense8” star Jamie Clayton taking over as Pinhead, previously immortalized by Doug Bradley.
Now, via Entertainment Weekly , we get the first images from the film of, among other things, Pinhead, the protagonist Odessa A’zion (“Grand Army”), Goran Visnjic’s character and a new cenobite.
A’zion plays the addict Riley who comes into contact with the infamous puzzle box and makes the mistake of playing with it. Cast also makes a new Cenobite named The Masque while Visnjic plays a character occultist who is fascinated by the puzzle box.
Director David Bruckner (“The Night House,” “The Ritual”) says the film is more of a new story within the franchise rather than a remake, and that Clayton, a trans woman, also does her own interpretation instead of imitating Bradley.
We felt a kind of expectation from the fans to redo the character. We knew we wanted a female Pinhead. Jamie was the right person for the role. A person’s identity can be very exciting for a role in many ways, but I have to emphasize that Jamie was absolutely perfect, says Bruckner.
The film has its US premiere on Hulu on October 7.
