Chucklefish attended on Future Games Show to showcase Starmancer. It is a pixelated and charming game which has been in a playable beta stage since the end of March. Soon, however, it's time for a more proper early access release, and it's happening on August 5 on Steam.
As players, we shoulder the role of an AI whose mission is to build a space station to ensure humanity's survival after a catastrophe on Earth. We can create a utopia where everything is peace and joy or invest in a more dictatorial direction. If you expose the poor people to too many horrors, it can lead to mutiny. They will also remember horrific events - such as seeing a dead body - and even gossip about it to others.
However, the threat from within is not the only one, because the space station can also be invaded from outside by aliens. In addition to polished floors and agriculture, traps must therefore also be built and people equipped with weapons. A couple of dead people is nothing to worry about, because it is always possible to clone new ones.
